Welcome to my blog
More about this page
Hello!
I’d like to use this page to comment on life as we live it today. New, views and background to my debut novel, The Good Shepherd, will be posted to the special dedicated page About the Good Shepherd. Here, I’m offering to share my observations on current affairs and everyday life.
We’re currently experiencing two major crises.
One – COVID-19 – is literally a matter of life and death. The other – Brexit – is a political and economic catastrophe in the making and entirely of our own making. The reckless way it is being pursued by our political masters will cause thousands (if not millions) of jobs to be lost and livelihoods to be ruined. The resulting economic crash will almost certainly result in years, if not decades, of austerity, which may well in turn result in premature deaths, as the already fragile social fabric of our nation disintegrates. To combine the devastating economic effects of the coronavirus crisis with the no-deal cliff-edge Brexit on 31 December this year, to which Boris Johnson and his apology of a government are irrefutably committed, is nothing short of criminal.
Readers of my twitter feed, @ZGKronbergs, will already be aware that I believe the Johnson government is the least competent, the least talented, the least honest and the least trustworthy in living memory – and my living memory extends as far back as the “You’ve never had it so good” days of Harold Macmillan.
Many people will agree with me; many others not. If you disagree with my judgement and would like to say why in an intelligent, well-reasoned and literate way, I’d be glad to hear from you so that we can debate this and other issues in a mutually respectful manner. That’s enough for now. My next post will say a little bit more about me.
